Handle over a note to my friends and beloved – a folded sheet of paper, slipped under the door, clamped to the windshield under the windshield wiper or secretly put in the jacket pocket or in the wallet, and when it is then curiously unfolded — nothing on it but
Scratching my Kelpie dog’s tummy always brings a happy reaction… legs in the air like she just doesn’t care and find just the right spot and one of the back legs starts twitching… all the time, the tail wagging. I am marking that one up as a “smile”.
If I can be as present and in the moment as possible and let people know that I see and hear them, I think that will be my part in this dance. A smile of acknowledgment can go a long way.
My sister’s dearest friend arrives this afternoon. It’s her birthday and this morning I will be making her a birthday cake. It’s a recipe I’ve never made before and it sounds yummy. Chocolate Mocha Cake! I’m pretty sure it will garner a smile.
Today is a rainy day here in WV. I won’t see anyone else today- but I will write a note to my niece and my sister in law and send via mail…getting “snail mail” always brightens their day! I will also try to get my husband to smile…he has the best smile and laugh of anyone I know. To everyone on this site…May your day be filled with knowing how much your words and reflections are appreciated.
For me today is a day of solace and remembrance. Remembering the death and destruction that wars brought upon the world. The sacrifices that men and women endured and suffered. May we reflect on this and hope that soldiers in the world today who are involved in conflict oppose their so called leaders, lay down their arms and say enough is enough that i am not going to fight your battle. May peace and compassion come to the world so that we can all smile.
I’m fortunate. I get to do this for a living. We’ll probably have a little witty banter before class. I’ll smile at everyone I pass in the halls today. After reflecting on this question, I’ll be more present with the blessing in the smile.
Show appreciation and love. This love question reminds me of the Five Love Languages book. We have to show love in the way the person will perceive that they are loved. That could mean something like take them to a play or art exhibit instead of the football game that I love.
How did you heart path appt go Rabbit? I had made a note of the date from previous reflections … I know you are worried and alot on your plate … hope it went well.
I need to go to town today to the bank and grocery store. I always speak to by name, smile and say hello to the tellers, stockers and cashiers. It always seems to give them a little joy and it certainly gives me some.
This reminds me of my partner who says to me: “a day without laughter is a day wasted” (C. Chaplin).
In my work I usually get people smile. They come to the library and when I give them the books they want to read/study they always smile, then I smile too because that’s the power of a good book!

I believe that I already made my little one smile today. If not, I plan to have lots of fun with her.
Can’t receive more instant joy than seeing a little one smile. Thanks for the visual Erich.

Be the first one to smile. Oftentimes my smile elicits a smile back, but not always.
Practice kindness in all interactions. 😊
I can recall a moment in time when I witnessed the best in that person.

Offer a heartfelt compliment. ♥️
Be mindful and make the best choice in support of interbeing— your smile is my smile. This reminds me of Ubuntu– I exist because you exist.
Be patient with my husband today as we go through another life change and make a real effort to smile more in this day….
Thank you for the smiles from each one of you as I read your comments. I will be very conscious of receiving and giving a smile.
I can start off smiling 🙂
I will play with my granddaughter – that will get me smiling and hopefully her too!

Very well said! Thank you.
Happy Veterans Day. Thank you Devy for reminding us all of this important day. Thank you to all who serve and made the ultimate sacrifice.
